MARITIME PIPE MARKING ISO 14726
Why do we mark pipes onboard ships?
Pipe marking on ships, offshore or onshore sites is essential to ensure safety at all times. Accidents, injuries and damage to the machinery and equipment can be caused by the fact that your crew or visitors are unaware of the substances that flow through the pipes. The importance of pipe marking becomes clear when we look at the different norms & regulations that are applicable, e.g. ISO 14726.
Standards & regulations concerning maritime pipe marking
Several regional organisations require compliance with pipe marking standards. Whether it is ANSI, ISO 14726 British Standard Institution 1710 or European Standard EC Directive 92/58/EEC, Signwell can supply the correct and compliant pipe markings in any colour with any print that meet these standards.
Because of the variety between global and regional standards, the ISO 20560 standard realizes a truly global, harmonized system of hazard recognition for pipe marker systems with uniformity of graphics, color-coding and formatting of safety messages.
Signwell can supply you with pipe markings to meet the standards of the new ISO 20560 standard. Offshore ferries and vessels require pipe markings according to ISO 14726. We manufacture pipe markings that fulfil all special regulations.
Requirements of maritime pipe marking
The content in the pipe marking shall be in accordance with the standards and regulations. It is important that the different elements, such as the dimensions, color coding, media description, size of text, flow directional arrows are appropriate by the guidelines in order to increase the safety onboard the vessel.
How shall I install the maritime pipe marking?
All pipes for every medium shall be clearly marked at least in every room at frequent intervals on straight pipe runs between 3 and 5 meters. Pipes onboard ships shall also be marked on each side of penetration points in bulkheads, walls and decks. Furthermore pipe marking shall also be added close to each valve and pump. It is important that pipes are marked when changing flow direction.
